What is a Credit Union?

A credit union is a cooperative, non-profit financial institution, owned and controlled by the people who use its services.Credit unions make a difference to their communities by looking out for their members’ interests and providing a level of service not possible at other financial institutions. For instance, the SFCU provides training and internship opportunities to students. It also offers higher rates and lower fees made possible by the non-profit status of the institution. All accounts at the SFCU are insured up to $250,000 by the National Credit Union Administration, so you know your money is in safe hands.

As a credit union, the SFCU values each and every member. By joining the SFCU, you don’t just join a financial institution – you join a community of dedicated Penn students working to ensure that you receive the best financial services possible.
